Microlender Kiva Gets $3M Grant From Google; Aims To Tackle Microfinance 2.0

Late last week Google’s philanthropic arm announced it had chosen to give our friends at Kiva a Global Impact Award, which comes with a grant of $3 million. Kiva President and cofounder Premal Shah says the funds will go to launch Kiva Labs, an effort to add more flexibility to microlending. Read more.

Every year in Brazil’s postal system, the Father Christmas Project is a big operation. Postal workers identify letters addressed to Father Christmas (“Papa Noel”) from needy children, buy the gift that the child asks for, and bring it back to the post office, where staff wrap it up and deliver it to the child.
