When I think of a gem that is classic, and as beautiful as it is subtle, pearls are front and center in my mind. They are made even more special because of the fact that they form inside of mollusks. Pearls automatically seem to make any outfit more elegant and sophisticated.
While it’s easy to attribute that extra class to a full set of jewelry including a necklace, bracelet, and earrings, I think one glorious pair of pearl earrings is all one needs to take a look to the next level of stylishness.
Pearls need no help in creating a gorgeous pair of earrings–other stones need not apply! Whether you prefer a simple set such as the dangling beauties above or something more elaborate like the chandelier earrings below, the pearls stand out and come across as effortlessly tasteful.
Though pearls obviously look gorgeous on their own, accented only by sterling silver or plated gold, they also have the benefit of pairing wonderfully with so many other gems. Because of their quiet, pleasant hue, they can make a bold stone look even more stunning and can cause a more subtly colored gem to stand out as well.
In the pair of earrings above, the garnet stones might be smaller, but their vibrant color goes so well with the milky white of the pearls that the eyes are drawn to both. Below, a turquoise-centered sun shines brightly, perfectly complemented by the dangling pearls beneath.
If you can’t find super rare natural pearls, one alternative is cultured pearls. These are created by oyster farmers under controlled conditions, and though they do come from mollusks, they aren’t quite natural. They are still very stunning, though, as seen in the examples above and below. The pair of earrings above features only cultured pearls dangling under a beautiful butterfly. Below, amethysts surround the cultured pearl, providing a lovely complement.
Pearls need not be white; they can easily be dyed and are even found naturally in every color of the rainbow. The beautiful pair of button earrings above features mabe pearls (half-pearls that have been grown right up against the inside of the oyster’s shell,) in a breathtaking blue hue. Below, a beaded necklace contains dyed pearls in a unique golden brown hue, differentiating them from any necklace I’ve ever seen.
Whether you like the classic pale white hue in a single stone with little ornamentation or a plethora of colorful gems cascading all around, pearls can fit the bill. Their simple elegance will uplift your outfit and your spirit!
I don’t 100 % agree with your idea that natural pearl is available color other than white.
