It has been a long and arduous winter in our area. After spending months indoors, spring is finally in the air. The birds are chirping, the air is slowly warming, and I am struck with the need to entertain. Last summer I converted my patio into an outdoor space where people could mingle, eat and relax. One of my goals for this year was to add tableware to our outdoor experience. I wanted something that would fit the theme, something classic, but elegant, something that fit in with a relaxed theme, but could also be used for more upscale dining if needed. I found the answer with this Nostalgic Siam Turquoise Cream and Sugar Ceramic Serveware Set. Designed in Thailand by Duangkamol, the artist tells us, “I hope more people will understand and appreciate the art of Celadon ceramic. Each piece that I make has many stories to tell.”
The four piece set consists of a sugar bowl with lid, a creamer and a serving tray. Each item is handcrafted, making every piece unique, with a turquoise design and brown borders for an antiqued look. The picture on the website seemed to have a slight shine as if the cream and sugar set had a glazed look, but when I received the set, I didn’t notice a shine. The patina seemed a little rough, making it perfect for the outdoor or nostalgic look. I was worried about breakage on the long trip to my house, but they were so well wrapped I almost missed the lid to the sugar bowl.
The entire cream and sugar set is microwave and dishwasher safe, meaning easy clean-up for me. The easier the clean-up, the more use it will receive! I can see so many uses for this set. Besides the traditional use as a sugar and creamer, the tray could be used separately for aperitifs or a small sampler tray. I could see using the set in the bathroom to hold toothbrushes or other small objects. It would also be a great addition to an office, using the dishes to hold pencils and other necessary office supplies.
This set has made a great addition to my summer entertaining supplies, as I will use it again and again. Everyone who has seen it has complimented on its unique beauty. This is certainly one serveware set that will never be placed in the back of my entertaining shelves!
