How to Style a Graphic Envelope Clutch

Envelope Clutch

This past weekend, I had a very important event to attend, my twentieth high school reunion. Picking an outfit was both difficult and easy; I wanted something I felt good in, but didn’t want to appear like I was trying too hard or showing off. In the end, I went with a simple yet bright dress, and made a statement with my clutch and shoes. I felt perfectly suited for the night.

The hand woven cotton clutch had just the right amount of color and subtle pop of pattern to set off the pink dress, but not overpower it, and the size was just right to hold all the essentials; lipstick, a compact, my phone to take photos throughout the night, and my id and cash. It was also comfortable to hold throughout the night, while talking to old friends and dancing.

The navy blue in the shoes was picked up a bit by the clutch, and the gold embellished border tied in perfectly with my simple and delicate gold jewelry. That it was handmade, from Guatemala, makes it both a beautiful and special piece to add to my simple collection of small bags.

I tend to lean towards mixing bold patterns with solid colors, and I can see a myriad of places this particular envelope clutch will work into my daily outfits; from jeans and a white tee, to cotton maxis, this piece will get lots of continued use for many seasons to come.
