There are a number of reasons that at least 50% of the clothes in my closet don’t ever get taken off of their hangers or brought out of their drawers.
Who am I kidding? It’s more like 75%. I’m not the only one who, upon browsing through my own clothes, has a feeling similar to when I look back at pictures from the 80’s and 90’s, right? What was I thinking?
At least I can rest assured that I’m (mostly) learning from my mistakes and that I’ve gotten better and better at picking out classic, stylish-yet-practical, comfortable pieces when I walk into a store or shop online these days. Which might be why I’m in love with my new ‘Balinese Rose Charleston’ jersey knit sundress!
Classy, chic, sophisticated, colorful, flattering… the hardest part about browsing through women’s clothing from NOVICA is attempting to narrow down your favorites! But as soon as I came across the casual-yet-modern elegance of this jersey knit dress, I knew that it would be just the thing to entice me out of my yoga pants and into something more beautiful.
Even better, as I read through the profile of the artisan who created it, Galuh Kenanga, I loved seeing that clothing design began as a hobby for her and that it is mainly her creativity, eye for color and inspiration by her Balinese culture that drives all of her pieces. Being able to support a talented artist while donning a wonderful piece of apparel? It’s a win-win!
What a great dress! The Rayon/Lycra combination results in a soft, smooth fabric that drapes just right and the dropped waist is flattering with the way that the skirt begins below the natural waist and can be adjusted by the drawstring.
The bodice is simple and smooth and the scoop neck on the front and back are a nice complement to the skirt (without being too low that I have to wear layers under or over to feel comfortable).
But as well as the great design and relaxed fit, I find that it’s the versatility that gives this jersey knit dress a special touch. It has just the right mix of simplicity in the design and shine in the fabric that it can be dressed up or down with a few simple changes. Add heels and some bling and I’m ready for a night out or just toss on some flats and a cardigan and I’m not too overdressed for a casual afternoon lunch or volunteering at my children’s school. Perfection!
From the clean lines to the quality construction to the way that this jersey knit dress makes me feel confident and put together without any effort or work, I have no doubt that I will be wearing this for the rest of the summer and beyond!
Next up is to find just the right turquoise ring or tote handbag to go with it and I’ll be set. Or perhaps bringing this gorgeous dress home in blue as well?
