When I first unwrapped these mugs – I couldn’t believe how large they were – yes – they are huge! I’m really glad I ordered them when I did – because my inlaws from England recently came to stay – and boy do they drink a lot of tea!
I love the design of this talavera tableware – these mugs feel special when you hold them… so much so that I had to resist the temptation to put them on the top shelf and admire from afar… and take the plunge and include them into our day to day consumption of liquids.
It was my mother inlaw who made a B-line for these mugs – within minutes of arrival… and then about once ever 2 hours after that (incredible – I don’t know how they sleep at night for the caffeine). And so these mugs quickly became our every day mug of choice – even after the inlaws left.
For this reason it is a good thing they are so sturdy and solid. We don’t have a dishwasher and my husband is quite slapdash when it comes to doing the dishes – there have been several slo-motion incidences when the whole world stopped as I watched one of these mugs slip out of his hands and fall to the floor…. but amazingly they stayed unbroken without so much as a chip – that is not a challenge to others mind you!

So yes – it can be said that I am hooked on the artist Pedro Alba who made these lovely vessels. When browsing the whole NOVICA tableware collection, I have to say that now I have my talavera fixation… my eye always come back to the handblown glassware from Mexico – below is what I have my eye on next – should I or shouldn’t I???
