Beautiful and sonorous, this djembe drum features an engraved adinkra symbol. The Akan people of West Africa call the symbol nyansapow, signifying that if one can undo a knot made by a wise man, he or she is surely just as wise, if not wiser. Robert K. Ghartey crafts the handsome drum. The goatskin head is affixed by iron rings wrapped in cotton, and a macramé cord can be slung over the shoulder.
The djembe originated in Benin, where it is used during voodoo rites, and has been introduced into neighboring countries. It is indispensable in contemporary reggae.
