Beating a drum that she wears attached to her chest, an African drummer plays a traditional rhythm. Ghanaian artisan Baba Jamal creates this wall sculpture, which he hand-carves from sese wood. Embossed aluminum accents add the drummer's traditional clothing.

Carved from pinewood, this petite wall plaque shares imagery from the Christian faith. It is inspired by the Sacred Heart. A symbol of Christ's love for man, the Sacred Heart was first venerated in 11th-century monasteries. Metal inlays depict white roses with golden edges — the rose is thought to be the favorite flower of the Virgin Mary, while white roses as symbols of her joys. This mask of a powerful visage personifies an Akan Ohene (King) in an original design by Ghana’s Abdul Aziz Mohamadu. He works with seasoned sese wood, carving the wall mask by hand and decorating it with regal accents embossed in aluminum to shape a crown, and in brass on the face to resemble tribal markings. The headdress, eyes and lips are painted reddish-brown.
