Saint Rose of Lima is crowned with the fragrant flowers of her name. Born on August 30, 1586, Isabel Flores de Oliva was the first person born in the Americas to be canonized, in 1671. Each year the devout make a pilgrimage to the chapel in Santa Rosa de Quives where she lived and worshiped. Javier Ramirez creates a cedar wood portrait of the young patroness of Peru, America and the Philippines.

Inspired by the distinctive azulejo style of glazed tilework representative of the Iberian Peninsula, Peruvian artist Asunta Pelaez merges the colonial influences of the centuries-old reverse painted glass technique with a consciously distorted perspective. Pelaez paints her multicolour geometric design in honour of the Convent of Santo Domingo, Lima on the reverse side of a pane of glass that she places in a white-painted wooden frame.

For the World Peace Project, Andean artisan Asunta Pelaez painted 'Sunset Doves' at her Lima workshop, imagining an idyllic scene with a pair of peace-loving doves that "represent the feminine and masculine duality as it shapes human interaction and solidarity."

She explains that the floral hues and placement of each dove convey the uninhibited harmony of nature. Pelaez works in orange hues to transmit a sensation of creativity and enthusiasm, inspired by the colours of the sky at sundown.
