Details

She steadies herself with one hand on her back while the other balances a basket full of fruit on her head. Her belly swells with new life. Dressed in a flowery sarong, she remains ahokeka, or "active" in the Akan language. Designed by Agnes Amponsah, this admirable ebony wood sculpture is carved by hand in Ghana.

"A beautiful box."

This is a beautiful box, well designed and well made. The ebony is wonderfully dark and gives it a very satisfying weight when you hold it. I find myself smiling whenver I look at it.
