An extraordinary example of Wayan Rendah's magnificent sculpting, this piece crafted in the Megulet style signifies a profound technical and spiritual undertaking. The trancelike yogi bows his body and presses his head against open palms, rocking back and forth on folded legs. The muscles and tendons of his arms and legs are stretched tautly as he prays with unrelenting fervor. The piece emits a powerful aura of piety, of religious asceticism, and of self-denial.
Yogis are holy men and great mystics, many of whom also possess the gift of prophecy. They are beloved figures in the countryside, and villagers will feed and care for the yogis as they roam from region to region, searching for perfect purity and knowledge through meditation, ecstatic trances and frightening self-mortification.
A gripping piece in local suar wood, the sculpture is redolent of Eastern mysticism and stark simplicity used to induce contemplation and reflection.

“Didnt know what size to get, so I bought two. Unbeknownst to me, I wanted both!”

I have been intrigued by the crying Buddha for years. I sometimes struggle with depression and the crying Buddha makes me feel less alone. I bought both the small and larger carving because I didnt know how they would feel. I want to offer comfort to the Buddha and I didnt know what that would look like. Would I want to hold it in my hand or would I want to stroke his back? Turns out, I want to do both. I brought the smaller carving to work and I have the larger statue on my grandmothers desk. I rub the larger statues back every time I walk into my living room. I offer the Buddha my comfort and he offers me his. I hold the smaller carving in my hand when Im at work. The smooth contours of the carving beg to be touched. Im so happy with both of them. They are beautiful.

“Gorgeous”

I just received this sculpture, and it is a beautiful worjk of art to be cherished forever. A lovely addition to my collection. Just looking at this creation makes you smile, and you can feel the love it exudes. Wonderful gift idea for that special someone in your life, or anyone who sometimes just needs a hug.
