Painting from the beautiful municipality of San Juan Comalapa, Guatemalan artist Hugo Pichiya captures a tranquil scene at a local village. Water from a recent rain pools within the street's cobblestones as flowers bloom from backyards. In the distance, two hillsides dotted with farms watch over. Says the artist, "Guatemala is a beautiful place to become inspired; in each small corner there is a marvelous landscape. We are surrounded by nature, volcanoes, mountains, and flora and fauna; we are very fortunate. It is because of this that I want to transmit these elements into my work."

Houses line an unpaved lane recently washed by rain. Behind rustic wood fences, flowering bushes fill the scene with colours in this enchanting work by Bonifacio Maxia Cutzal. He depicts the town of Zunil, nestled amid the fertile hillside farmland of Quetzaltenango, ably conveying its sensations of peace and well-being. The Guatelmalan artist signs his work as "Boni."

Colonial homes sit along a cobblestone lane washed by rain, its puddles reflecting the small but stately houses. In the distance, a volcano raises majestically like a sentinel above Antigua, Guatemala. The cobblestone lane leads to the church of San Francisco. "This is is one of my favorite churches in Antigua," Bonifacio Maxia Cutzal confides. Working in oil on canvas, he depicts the scene with sepia overtones, creating a sensation of nostalgia.
