Depicting a bird that reaches to grab an egg off of its back, Sankofa is a traditional Adinkra symbol that signifies the importance of learning from the past. Ghanaian artisan Paul Ababisa creates this African mask, which is carved from sese wood and given a black finish. The Sankofa symbol in embossed aluminium decorates the forehead, while embossed aluminium patterns accent the cheeks.
