"I was greatly saddened when my grandmother passed away, and this painting is my way of honoring her and working through my grief," confides Made Pasek Kusuma Wijaya. He paints her lovely portrait with oils, sharing her smile with the viewer. "In the background, images of black coral symbolize the hard times and challenges she overcame, while white represents the light that shone upon her, and indicates that she is in a better place," explains the Balinese artist.
