This impressive necklace is the work of the nimble and patient fingers of Wixarika Huichol artisan Tunurima Lopez. It features five peyote flower medallions in the centre of the fiery red Tau Tayau, the sun. A long, radiant fringe cascades beneath the central pendant, while orange and purple scorpions scuttle across the back. Teruka, the scorpion is the guardian of the corn – staff of life – and must receive gifts before the harvest. All these bold images all created by hand with multicoloured seed beads.

"Beautiful gift"
Muchísimo gracias Tunurima! My Abuelita is from Nayarit-Wixárika. She was also Wixáritaria and I wanted something specially made from her tribe. I hope to visit Mexico someday in my great grandparents village. Thank you for this beautiful gift.
