Ghanaian artisan Agnes Amponsah hand carves this graceful sculpture from ebony wood. The sculpture depicts a woman carrying a pot made of recycled, multi-colored beads on her head. A figure of the artisan's own design, Amponsah calls the sculpture Akatua, which means "reward" in the Akan language.

Lovely box. Lid works, though open /close is tight at the hinge. Hope it will loosen with use and not wear on sides in that region too much.

This is a beautiful box, well designed and well made. The ebony is wonderfully dark and gives it a very satisfying weight when you hold it. I find myself smiling whenver I look at it.
