Inspired by the 15th century novel attributed to Fernando de Rojas, this painting evokes both the passion and the pain. The tragic romance tells the story of Calisto, Melibea and Celestina. Salvadoran artist David Fernando Duke works in oils and acrylic on canvas to convey his feelings. "Celestina is a woman," he muses. "She is the woman who drew me to her, a spiritual mother in life, who showed me the road to truth." In the title, 81 relates to the number of paintings he has created within a certain time frame.
