Oscar Rodolfo Mendoza celebrates the art of the ancient Maya with the original design of this ceramic vessel. Decorated with a jaguar's head on the lid and classic glyphs on the body, the vessel is crafted by hand with the same ceramic techniques developed by the Maya Pibil people. Little is known about them, other than that the Pibil were a warrior and migrant community that came to El Salvador from Mexico. This vessel is treated to achieve an antiqued look, featuring red and orange hues obtained from achiote seeds.

I like both the sculpting and the paintings on this vessel. I have many items from Central and South America; this is an excellent addition. I enhanced the display by placing it in front of a mirror, allowing a panoramic view.

Ever since I got to visit Mayan ruins in the early 1980s, I have admired Mayan art. The piece I bought is very beautiful, and I prize it. I very much enjoyed reading about the artist.

I use the jar to burn palo santo and sage and I just love it. I did not see anything in Mexico that looked more authentic mayan than this jar.
