"We decided to craft decor accessories in metal. We've found different kinds of finishing that make our work unique."
"I was born in Sumatra where we have strong cultural traditions. My parents were farmers and traders. I became self-sufficient at 13 years old when I lived away from home in a boarding school.
"After graduating from high school, I married and moved to Bali with my husband. We opened a small cafe but had to close it a year later, since there weren't many visitors. Then, we sold our vehicle to rent a shop where we sold music instruments, but that business also went bankrupt. I think it was because my husband would get drunk and dally with other women. After we divorced, I worked in a factory for a year and then opened a handicrafts shop and a laundry.
"My second husband was one of my laundry customers. Because he enjoys art, we decided to craft decor accessories in metal. He makes many designs with his talent and skill. We use metals we obtain from East Java and work with welding tools, scissors, pliers and a small compressor. We're sometimes helped by two other workers.
"Based on my husband's experiments, we've found different kinds of finishing that make our work unique. He also never stops creating new designs.
"By joining Novica, I hope our designs will be seen around the world and we'll gain more customers. That way, we could pay to try to have a baby with In Vitro Fertilization, as that's the only way we'll be able to have a child."
