The skulls satiny black is a lovely accent to the collection of Mexican articles on display in the red hutch in my kitchen. I am very pleased to have acquired this sculpture.
Exquisite Vision and Craftsmanship
This sculpture is remarkable. I dont know how the artist can look at disparate bits of scrap metal and envision such a variety of interesting and unique sculptures. I have purchased several pieces from this artist, but this catrina statue somehow manages to look delicate even though its cobbled together from recycled auto parts. But its definitely sturdy despite the delicate appearance. I am beyond impressed. I intended to give this as a gift, but Im not sure I can part with it!

Handcrafted Mayan Ceramic Skull Sculpture from Mexico, "Balam Jaguar"
One of the most important symbols of the Maya culture was the jaguar, or . The Maya people worshipped the jaguar and believed that kings and nobles were descendants of this powerful animal. Inspired by the political and religious significance of the jaguar to the Maya people, Mexican artisan Angel Ceron paints an image of a jaguar onto this skull sculpture that he handcrafts out of clay.

Mexican artisan Javier Ramirez pays homage to the cultural tradition of skeletal with this "tree of life" sculpture. In the center, a lovely catrina skeleton holds a bouquet while wearing a floral dress, surrounded by figurines depicting flowers and skulls. Each piece is diligently crafted from ceramic and painted by hand, assembled by steel wire.
