Indian Animal Themed Soapstone Sculpture
This lady is mind boggling! I love elephants and enjoy supporting craftsmen and artisans - people with vision who work with their hands. Having said that - this little sweetheart (& her secret) took my breath away! She's beautiful to look at &, somehow, a comfort to hold. You couldn't pay me to part with her!
I purchased one of these a few years ago. A few days ago, it was broken by a house cleaner. Inside were 6 additional elephants, rather than the 3 listed in the description. Four increasingly smaller elephants were standing on top of each other, and inside the two elephants on the bottom were two additional elephants! I can't even imagine the degree of skill needed to carve and elephant, inside of an elephant, inside of an elephant all out of stone and through such tiny holes. I have always loved this. I was happy to see that there were two remaining, because I just ordered a replacement. The artist is to be commended. Gulam Rasool is very, very talented.
Received this beautiful elephant from my husband for our 27th wedding anniversary. It truly is a piece of art. The carvings are georgeous.
"After years of hard work, I was honored with a state award for excellence…. Today, I am proud to mention that I have earned a name for myself in the art of jali work."
