Details

Inspired by the vibrant flowers in the Comalapa region of Guatemala, Mirian Otzin designs this fashionable backpack. She works on a traditional telar de pie, or floor loom, diligently hand-weaving multicolored zigzags and geometric patterns in the style of Mayan textiles. Faux leather accentuates this backpack, which can be worn on two adjustable straps or carried by a handle. A zipper pocket on the front provides space for storing odds and ends. The bag's main flap opens with a belt buckle, revealing a drawstring closure that opens to a cotton-lined interior with a zipper pocket on one side for storing small items.

"Love the weight and colors!"

It is bigger than I expected. I was hoping it would be about 50% of the size it is but it is light and holds a bunch of stuff if you carry a bunch of stuff. It has a generous front pocket so my phone (Samsung Note 9) fits easily.

"Gift for Daughter"

My youngest daughter was going back to grad school and loves things from indigenous artists. I thought this expressed her uniqueness. The pattern and colors on the backpack are unique. It was also very sturdy to be able to hold books. She uses it and makes it an integral part of her everyday use of it.

"Really nice tote!"

I have been carrying this tote since it arrived in the mail several days ago, and love it. It is lightweight and a perfect size. The fabric and the needlework are both beautiful - I particularly like the birds! Very nice work all around!

"Absolutely fabulous!"

I was so happy to receive this beautiful backpack! The craftsmanship is fantastic and the colors are so vibrant. I absolutely love it! It is a good size and has plenty of room to hold all my belongings. The pocket in front is spacious enough and the interior pocket is great for your smaller items. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting a great looking backpack. Mirian Otzin, you are truly a talented artisan!
