Working in batik, Edward Adeniran creates a dramatic wall hanging in rich shades of brown and gray on black. He portrays a Yoruban drummer of western Nigeria. Yoruba kings communicate with their subjects by way of "talking" drums whose rhythmic messages are widely understood. "I am inspired by the way people understand the tune and dance to it. The drum speaks to them. Sounds of the world speak to us, so let's find a way to respond," the Ghanaian artist says.
