"To start a new canvas means to cue the unexpected."
"To start a new canvas means to cue the unexpected. I start with blotches and they guide me. My work is characterized by different themes; I tend to paint organic forms such as flowers, forests and motifs from urban architecture – they all are small reminiscences from my travels. The use of geometry and lines brings spatial organization to the work while opening windows and creating planes of different depths.
"Since 1996 I have been 'playing at painting.' I flee from easy compositions, like pure abstract geometry, and through these years I've managed to develop my own style. Organic forms gradually took over while geometric forms assumed another function.
"Nowadays its difficult to identify one sole influence on my work - we are subject to so much information. Through the Internet I manage to visit museums and galleries from around the world and I also frequent workshops and exhibitions. I do manage to identify certain contemporary artists whose work is familiar. Now through Novica my work will also be viewed as reference to other artists within the same 'family' which I think its super-interesting!
"My work speaks much about my profession, I am a biologist with a master's degree in genetics. You could say the content of my canvas is filled with a diversity of forms harmoniously organized with the intention of transmitting beauty and peace."
D. Nunes has mainly exhibited her work in Rio de Janeiro, in both individual and collective exhibitions.
