"... when I choose "Ngaben" (Balinese traditional things) as a theme, I use a modern techniques to paint it."
"My name is Wayan Wedia and I was born at Sayan village, Ubud district, Bali, on December 8, 1976. I started learning painting since I was still a child, because I grew up in the family of a painter. In 1992 I studied at the SMSR Ubud, and continued in the STSI Denpasar, for learning how to paint in a more professional way. Since then, I've painted a lot under the guidance of Wayan Kaya, who is one of the greatest Balinese professional painters.
"My paintings are inspired in everyday life. At the beginning, I painted in the traditional style and now I've changed to modern tendencies. My work is a collaboration between traditional and modern styles, because when I choose Ngaben (Balinese traditional things) as a theme, I use a modern technique to paint it. My favorite media are oil on canvas and mixed media. The challenge in painting is creating something new.
"Since 1996, my work has participated in several Balinese exhibitions in important cultural centers in Ubud, Denpasar, and Batuan Sukawati. I really wish to thank what Novica is doing for promoting the artist's works throughout the world."
