"There is mystery and solitude and there is space for the viewer to share in those experiences."
"Reference to my work is to be found in nature. I was born in Rio de Janeiro's southern littoral in a time when the region's forests were virgin. The exuberance of the Atlantic forests in their meeting with the sea makes part of my internal content.
"I began my studies in the classical way in 1968, by painting on the streets and paying attention to the variations in light. Even up to this day, my work is based in the skills learned at the Brazilian Society of Fine Arts. I developed a very personal work based on chiaroscuro, shadows, volume, and movement, and with imaginary perspective I transform images without escaping form. I rely on terracotta hues, sepia breaks color's rigidity and creates an oneiric and poetic atmosphere. My colors are burnished, I use color upon color until I achieve texture and give form to the canvas. I cannot conceive of painting without their being depth and complexity of color.
"I play with the construction of space, there are many planes in my work – Impressionist planes that blend into abstract backgrounds. There is mystery and solitude and there is space for the viewer to share in those experiences. I create by treading on an individual path in search of a satisfying result. This particular work is daring, I do not pretend to achieve market renown – I would rather attain better results and purify my language.
"To exhibit in Novica's site is an excellent opportunity to help artists do what we more or less like, that is to sell our work. But we do grow attached to our work and we find it difficult to market it. Novica is a welcomed assistance in this respect."
