Expressionist Oil Painting (2011), "The Perfect Couple"$1,639.99
"I am fascinated by birds in general, and most specific by or West Peruvian doves," says Theus of his muse. "I love their song, which announces the arrival of dawn, and by all the love they show when they find their perfect mate." Painting with oils, he takes artistic license to depict the usually gray doves in warm shades of pink.
Titled "La pareja perfecta" in Spanish.
Multicolor Expressionist Painting (2005, "Fish Vendor"$2,699.99
Carlos Morales paints a beautiful woman who offers two red flounders for sale. A scarlet cloth covers her head where she balances a bowl of shimmering fish. Applying layers of clear color, the artist achieves a sensation of depth and balance. The woman's vitality implies a source of life and her voluptuous body, the endless abundance of the ocean.
Titled "Vendedora de pescado" in Spanish.
Inca Origin Legend Oil on Canvas Painting, "Mamacoca"
For this hauntingly beautiful painting, Theus turns his brush to the origins of the Inca empire. Capac y Mama Ocllo were said to have founded the great Andean civilization. Married to their son, Sinchi Roca, Mamacoca was much loved. When she died, Sinchi Roca ordered a stone monument, or to be built to her memory. One day, a bush began growing there, eventually becoming a coca tree. The Inca chewed the leaves, but commoners were forbidden to use them. Working in a palette of blues, the Peruvian artist adds accents in bright jewel colors as he depicts Mamacoca arising from the leaves.
Titled "Mamacoca" in Quechua.
Original Expressionist Mother and Child Portrait in Oils, "Mother's Love II"$1,599.99
A woman cradles her baby in her arms as her face radiates an expression of quiet bliss. Exploring the sentiments of motherhood, Juan Carlos Ñañake depicts the reclining nude in a canvas filled with sunlight. Flowers bloom from fields of dappled blue in a painting as warm as a mother's love.
Titled "Amor Maternal II" in Spanish.
