Handwoven of cotton on the foot pedal loom, this exotic cushion cover is decorated with zigzag patterns in black and beige over a body of soothing wheat. Guatemalan artisan Mirian Otzin designs the cushion cover, working with techniques that were traditionally reserved for men. She completes it with beige tassels at the corners. A slit in the cushion cover's beige back allows for the insertion of a cushion.
The Women's Empowerment badge is awarded to female artisans or artisan groups that are led by women.
"I love this art because it represents my past and my present. Through our weaves we communicate our cultural values. Preserving this beautiful artistic tradition has become a challenge since young women don't seem to be interested in weaving, so we need to promote it or else it will become extinguished" Mirian first learned how to weave from her mother, and wishes to inspire others and pass this traditions down.
Miriam is a strong and amazing women who has managed to overcome a horrible incident of sexual abuse. Her hardwork and determination make her the inspirational woman she is today.
Mirian has worked hard to create new designs which has lead to the increase in her sales. Her perseverance and passion have helped her continuously expand and grow her business.
Both of her children are still in school and Mirian plans to continue to financially support the education.
