"I found myself wondering, 'Why are Peruvian crafts so beautiful, but not trendy or popular? Why not create Peruvian accessories that go with modern outfits in an everyday wearable style?'"
"I'm Fiorella Katherine Cutipa Call, born and raised in Lima. My childhood was very happy and I grew up in a family full of love. My parents worked to always give their children the best. They taught us that working hard with dedication and effort produces results sooner or later. They believe that nothing is easy. To achieve your dreams you must trust your instincts.
"Ever since I was young, I was always the most creative in the family and enjoyed doodling, mixing colors and shapes. While exploring painting and design, I took some fashion classes and discovered I had a knack for designing accessories. I began mixing current trends with our traditional Ayacuchano weaving and embroidery. I respect our textile artisans a lot and I consider them innate artists.
"I've always Peruvian handicrafts — I find them fascinating. I consider Peru to be blessed with a cultural richness. So I found myself wondering, 'Why are Peruvian crafts so beautiful, but not trendy or popular, simply colorful souvenirs? Why not create Peruvian accessories that go with modern outfits in an everyday wearable style?'
"It was then that I discovered a mission to design and create with perseverance and enthusiasm. It was my market research that led me to this work. I've especially like eco-friendly accessories with the added value given them by the artisan's hand.
"For our handbags, I use handwoven fabrics. They are woven of wool and colored with organic dyes derived from plants. I often add accents in leather. Each bag needs to be pieced together by hand in a delicate crafting process.
"I most enjoy and am most motivated by innovation, and the use of quality eco-friendly materials that show the effort of women artisans. For me, the most challenging part is creating work opportunities for artisans seeking a better life. When creating designs, I feel challenged to explore my creativity and what I can create with the materials I have and being inspired by new trends.
"My inspiration comes from always visualizing new fashion trends, seasonal color palettes and combinations, and discovering new ways to find myself. At the same time, it's inspiring to help people, create better opportunities for myself, my community and to help to make the world a little more harmonious.
"My plans are full of dreams that I've had since I was a girl. I'd like for my accessories to be known in different countries and be recognized for their quality and ancestral art."
