The bride and groom appear in their exquisite payas agung, a term used in Bali to describe the finest traditional attire. In the past, only members of the upper castes, such as Brahmans and royalty, wore this clothing, but now all kinds of people use payas agung for their wedding ceremonies. Its exclusive look calls to mind Bali's rich cultural history. Carved from mahogany wood by Nyoman Subrata, this piece offers a romantic touch to any space.
This item is individually carved by hand and belongs to a special collection created by the artist.
Subrata has been a master carver for many years. He is one of the original Novica artisans and now provides work to other artisans at his carving workshop. He has trained his daughter, Indrawati, in all aspects of his business and she will keep the workshop going when Subrata no longer is able to.
Nyoman Subrata has received 6 microcredit loans with 0% interest from Kiva and Novica, the first for $1300 and the most recent for $2600. Proceeds were used to stock up on the materials he needs, such as various woods.
"This is will become a cherished heirloom "
Nyoman Subraya is really a master woodcarver. This Balinese Bride & Groom statue is a very wonderful peace. The size, the intricate details carving, the stain are just perfect. I display it on my wood carving dresser & mirror in our master?s bedroom. I am originally from Indonesia, and very familiar with woodcarving. But this particular piece is just amazing.
- It is great for a wedding gift
