Framed by towering trees and lush vegetation, Rama and Sita are portrayed in the deep forest. Wayan Rendah portrays them in kepelan wood, each quivering leaf sculpted with astonishing realism. As the first son of the royal family, Rama was heir to the kingdom of Ayodya. But the king's second wife tricked him into crowning her own son as king and sending Rama and his wife Sita into exile. The beautiful woman was kidnapped by the ogre-king, but Rama sent Hanoman to her rescue. The white monkey god is a symbol of perfect devotion.
