Wadang and Albesia Wood King Nekula Decorative Shadow Puppet, "Nakula"
The striking figure of Nakula from the Hindu epic Mahabharata is captured in this exquisite shadow puppet. Javanese artisan Gunadi crafts his masterpiece from wadang and albesia wood, then hand-paints the finer details. Nakula is considered the most handsome of the five Pandava brothers and was appointed along with his twin brother Sahadeva as the king of Madra kingdom.

"Very fine attention to detail"

The shaping was beautiful and the painting was marvelous. The closer I look at my shadow puppets, the more there is to admire. Thanks to the artist.

"Beautiful"

I got this for my husband who studies Indonesian history. When we lived in Indonesia we always wanted one, but at the time could not afford one. It is so wonderful that now such products with amazing craftsmanship are available to those abroad. One of the sticks did break, but that was probably due to the fact our 5 year old couldnt stop playing with it. It is magical.
