A brilliant painted wood box opens to reveal handcrafted masks. Used during the Carnival celebrations preceding Lent, they show an astonishing array of animals, human and fantasy faces. Alejandro Chávez displays them in a traditional diorama, known as a retablo; each figurine is modeled by hand.

"Never gets old"
It's been prominently displayed for nearly 10 years and I still enjoy finding little nuances of the masks.

This wonderful work of art by el Señor Chavez made me and my partner smile with delight. It brought to us a child like joy of discovery each time we search the masks for a new face. We are very happy with our retablo and thank the artist so much!

"Looks Great in my updated bathroom"
There is an amazing amount of detali in this little mirror. I recently painted and replaced the sink with a Mexican tile backsplash and this sweet little detail fits in perfectly.
