By Joycelyn Sena Zigah, this handcrafted pendant depicts a cowrie shell in gleaming sterling silver. The beautiful shells were once used as money in West Africa, and Ghana's currency — the Cedi — takes its name from sedie, the Akan word for "cowry." "Cowrie is money and should be worn as such — an emblem of prosperity," the Ghanaian designer says.
