Made manifest to all peoples and cultures, the Christ child is born to an Andean virgin and Saint Joseph aboard a humble balsa (raft) of reeds. The infant is observed by sheep and guarded by loving parents in an exquisite South American portrayal of the Holy Family. By placing the key protagonists in a raft shaped like a basket, the artist suggests the lineage with Moses of this newborn prophet who will be the Messiah. Alberto Aparicio Canchari and his wife sculpt and paint the figures by hand.

I have two of Alberto Aparicio Canchari sculptures, Born in a Canoe and Light of Andes. They are full of detail and are two of my favourite Christmas pieces.

Senor Canchari, I received your ""Born to the Amazons"" nativity set yesterday and it made my day! Absolutely breathtaking -- even better than the pictures. Your work of art will be on my mantle all year long -- not just for the Christmas season. I salute your wonderful talent and spirit. MaryJo
