Traditional Sumatran Bronze Sculpture, "Mythical Sumatran Creature"
A mythical creature whose body fuses the features of a horse, a dragon and a lion, the naga morsarang comes to life in bronze. Four children and an adult play on its body. Sukaenah presents this bronze sculpture that was once reserved for the datu (priest) of the Batak people in Sumatra. He was regarded as the intermediary between the human and supernatural worlds, and he kept old potions, medicinal herbs and texts in the naga morsarang container. It is believed that the humans portrayed on the box represent the preceding datus.

Beautiful work of art. Wish the size was bigger as the naga morsarang would look more imposing.
