Shaped like an eye, this pendant from Kenari in Bali is replete with exotic style. The sterling silver pendant contrasts a smoothly polished exterior surface against an oxidized center that has been detailed with traditional bun (wirework) and jawan (dot) motifs. With a 'pupil' of cool blue topaz, the pendant is mesmerizing. It centers a sterling silver foxtail chain.

Kenari is committed to growing her workshop. She constantly develops new designs and has assistants to help her increase her output.
Kenari is from Celuk, the historical center of the Balinese silver trade. All of her family work in silver and, as a girl, she learned silversmithing techniques from her grandfather and assisted her uncle in his workshop. When she married, her husband was very supportive and she continued to create jewelry. Kenari uses traditional techniques and hand-finishing. She incorporates traditional Balinese designs in her pieces in the hope of sustaining not only traditional techniques but also the motifs that are the hallmark of Balinese jewelry. She would love for her children to continue this art and hopes to teach them as they grow up.
Kenari has received 5 microcredit loans with 0% interest from Kiva and Novica, the first for $2000 and the most recent for $4000. Proceeds were used to invest in more sterling silver to create new jewelry designs.
Kenari and her husband are very involved in their children's lives. They particularly encourage their sons' artistic pursuits and their interests in guitar, gamelan music and drawing.
Kenari's jewelry workshop has grown since joining Novica and she now has assistants there. Additionally, she is able to give work to local silversmiths as the need arises.
Kenari relies on her Novica sales to support not only her family but also her assistants and their families.
