Details

"Sekah is a symbolic tool to represent the spirit of ancestors in a ritual of purification called Nyekah for Hindu people in Bali," says artist Made Surita. "Sekah might be presented in a form of effigies, which – inside the soul of the spirit – must be purified in order to receive protection from God. The descendants bringing Sekah cradle them like babies in their arms, while another family member holds an umbrella as a symbol of honor and service for the ancestor's spirit."
