Working with her mother and her husband, Yuni Kristina specializes in batik art. She creates this silk shawl with the batik technique, where a wax resist is used to stamp the geometric patterns before submerging the fabric in dye. The floral parang motifs come to life in tangerine, sand, peach, and ivory. Parang motifs were traditionally reserved for the royalty of Indonesia, available here in this beautiful accessory.

i would give this 5 stars if there had not been a chemical used in bug prevention, apparently. i always wash before wearing and it took a day of various soakings (borax and vinegar diluted of course) to get rid of the smell. (please dont use chemical treatments...there are plenty of natural bug repellents that would work). i am concerned about lingering residue. otherwise, the colors are subtle and softly rich.

My wife started collecting batik when we lived in Jakarta. The collection is now quite large and she has given lectures on batik - to Indonesians, among others. She was thrilled by the scarf - wonderfully executed.
