"You can achieve everything with your tenacity.
“My name is Eko Purnomo. My family lived in a small city named Magelang, one of the most comfortable cities in Central Java Province. I am 47 years old, and I was married to my wife for almost 7 years. She just passed away last May, 2018, from a dangerous brain cancer that took her away from me so fast. She left me messages to never give up on painting.
“I never studied how to paint; never went to a formal school for painting. I got my painting ability from the universe-- I loved to paint since I was a child. I won several prizes when I was in school. Because of my painting, I was even sent to Japan as an exchange student, to share about the culture of Java Island.
“My curiosity about the human body and my desire to paint it made me do an embarrassing thing. When I was a child, I could not forbear my desire to paint the human body, so I peeped on my aunt while she was bathing. I was caught, but when she knew why I did it, she forgave me and encouraged me to continue my painting.
“I love to paint nudes; for me, nudity is the most pure honesty we can find in the human body. The human anatomy shows the real aesthetics of nature. After I finished high school, I had a fishing business, and in my leisure time I would paint. Now, painting is my only job, and still I love to paint nudes.
“Some people think that I am weird and eccentric, but I remember what my parents told me: ‘You can do anything you like, as long as it is not only good for yourself, but never hurts others.’ "
