Signed Oil Portrait of a Toy Seller in a Guatemalan Town, "William and the Iguanas"

A teen walks the streets of Antigua, carrying a myriad of colorful toys which he offers to passersby. Dolls, animals and carts tempt toddlers, and bright foam rubber snakes and lizards appeal to older children. "I depict a young vendor, one of many who take advantage of vacation days during the Holy Week observances," Mario Sergio Aviles says. Although he offers fun and happiness, the weary boy seems thoughtful. His family relies on his help to meet day-to-day expenses.
