In this painting by Ghanaian artist Joseph Kobina Prah, two porter women sit together to await their next job. According to the artist, African women who drop out of high school often become porters in order to make ends meet. The woman on the right works in order to afford a better education for her child. Joseph depicts his subjects in an expressionist style, working with acrylics and ink.
