Signed Batik Painting of Market Women from Ghana, "The Foursome"

Ghanaian artist Samuel Ashong celebrates Africa's rich market culture. He uses the batik method, diligently applying a wax resist to cotton calico before dyeing it to depict a group of women in green. Walking with goods and baskets atop their heads, they arrive to the market early in the morning, taking advantage of the opportunity to teach their wards how to sell their wares.
