What once were molds used for making piloncillo (brown sugar cones similar in taste to molasses), today they become fabulous candleholders. Gabriela Avella upcycles the galvanized iron cups as container candles, setting four on a sturdy pinewood block. Whitewashed with a rustic, weathered appearance, the candleholder rests on a wrought iron base.
Zafra refers to the process through which sugar canes are harvested and burned in order to obtain piloncillo.
