Details

Ghanaian artisan Abdul Aziz Mohamadu creates this fearsome mask using native rubberwood. He carves the wood by hand into his own design before sanding and painting it over the course of two to three weeks. Bold shades of red, yellow, green, blue, black, and white decorate the face, with striped and polka dot designs creating a striking contrast between the colors. The artisan names his unique design jabulile, which is a Zulu word that translates to "happiness."
