Safely nestled between its mother's arms, an elephant calf learns how to use a bamboo stick from its mother. "A mother's love is instinctual, unconditional, and forever. It is like no other, and it does not discriminate across species. We may differ from our non-human neighbors in various ways, but a mother's love is largely universal," believes Indian artist Tanisha Bakshi. "Just like humans, animals spend a great deal of their time taking care of their babies and keeping them as safe as possible. They teach them important survival skills." She transforms her statement into the endearing "Mother and Child" collection of very realistic charcoal on ivory paper paintings.
