“I am Vidhi Koradia from the beautiful city of palaces, Jaipur. Born in 1988, I am cheerful, emotional and a workaholic by nature. I love to work and create handmade products.
“Starting an entrepreneurial journey is very difficult, and especially with a material for which demand has to be created. I always believed in handmade paper, but it gets difficult to compete with machine-made paper. In struggling to stick to this material in this competitive market and by convincing people of the uses and advantages of handmade paper, I feel very happy and proud.
“I love handmade paper as a material because of its tensile strength and robust nature. It helps in waste management, as it is completely made from paper and cloth waste. It saves the environment, as it does not require more trees to be cut down. It leads to employment, because as the name suggests it is handmade. The colors and textures that can be produced in handmade paper are amazingly unique and elegant.
“I have a lot of mentors, but most importantly I would like to mention the name of Mr. Aasif Mohd. He is one of the finest in this field--a great instructor and an innovator.
“Handmade paper is an amalgamation of hosiery and cotton industry waste with paper waste. Color, fixer and binder hold it together. All of the materials are very basic and eco-friendly to work with. They are available at different factories and shops. All of the major ingredients are primarily the ones that can be recycled. My favorite thing about this craft is the fact that I am using a material that is eco-friendly and yet has the ability to transform itself into beautiful products of value and longevity. The most challenging part is to make people aware of the multiple benefits that this material possesses.
“I have a small workshop and a team of enthusiastic people who work together to create better products. We have our roles defined, and assist each other whenever need be. I get my inspiration from almost everything around me. I feel I am blessed to be able to visualize things around with me with a perspective of inculcating traditional art in modern articles for everyday use. We craft handmade paper products like stationery, and packaging for corporate gifting, souvenirs, wedding gifts, etc. Our products are primarily based on using organic, recyclable materials, so we are committed to providing eco-friendly goods.
“We strive to create bindings of diaries that make them more opulent and easy to use. We make the experience of journal-keeping more rich and interesting, giving them elements of surprise. The prints that we work on are based on a theme that we change every six months and customize according to the customers. We work on themes like quotes, adventure, journals, current topics in the world, outer space, nature lovers, animals, illustrations, cartoon characters, different countries’ cultures, facts, science and other customized themes. Every diary is created with heart and soul.
“I teach this craft to workers and women from the local community. I also take the opportunity to teach the young girls of Maheshwari Girls College this art for self-sustainability. This craft helps to generate employment and also enables female empowerment, as lots of women are becoming a part of this craft and performing the job successfully. We focus on female employment, as we believe they can do any and every kind of work as beautifully as males.
“I hope and plan and dream to make handmade paper a replacement to everyday use papers. I want it to be recognized as a substitute for paper which is environmentally friendly, sustainable and sturdy. Further, I wish to incorporate more products that can be termed as eco-friendly.”
