The ocelot — known locally as a jaguar — figures in pre-Hispanic art from Mexico to South America. Arlen Estrada depicts the fierce little cat in an anthropomorphic ceramic vessel. Sharp claws complement the rotund human form, and the head is that of the jaguar. Painted by hand in earthen colors, mysterious glyphs whisper of ancient legends.
