Phoenixes rise from past Peruvian artistry to decorate this handcrafted mirror by Edmundo Contreras. He paints the composition on glass panes, exquisitely detailing each bird and flower. Contreras selects red, earth tones, copper, and gilt applications to create the illusion of an antique mirror frame. Brought to Peru by European settlers, painted glass art made a resurgence in the 1960's bearing the distinctive style of Cajamarca artisans.
