Original Painting of African Women Fetching Water, "Sticky Situation"
Four women walk homeward at sunset, balancing heavy calabash bowls of water on their heads. Each reaches out to steady herself on a companion. Andy Isong depicts the graceful friends in warm colors. "The river banks are muddy and so risky that, without much care and adaptations, one can easily fall with the pot broken. This is why the women developed a strategy of supporting themselves with another hand on each other," The Nigerian artist says. "This strategy is applicable to life's journey. That there are a series of sticky situations in life and we need to be mindful and be each others' keeper."
